Indigenous Day Celebration set for June 21 at Millennium Park  

National Indigenous People’s Day in Canada is recognized on June 21 and an event in Bancroft is planned to mark the occasion.  

It starts bright and early at Millennium Park, with a sunrise ceremony at 6 a.m. People are encouraged to bring drums, rattles and a chair.  

The event continues through the day.  

The opening ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. and activities continue up to 3 p.m. There will be several music and drum performances. And children’s activities at the event include axe throwing, soap carving and medicine wheel frisbee toss.  

The event is being put on by several groups including the Algonquin Inodewiziwin Centre and the Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation.
