MNRF seeking suspect in Centennial Lake fire

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry wants to find who’s responsible for the forest fire at Centennial Lake.

The fire was first reported on an island on the Renfrew County lake on the afternoon of June 4. It spread to the mainland and ended up affecting about 45 hectares, forcing residents in the area to evacuate.

MNR says whoever is responsible might have left the area that afternoon from a boat launch near Wolfe Rapids Road. That’s near the island where the fire started.

In a statement, MNRF says it “takes this situation very seriously and is looking to identify those responsible.”

If you have any information, you can contact The MNRF Tips line at 1-877-847-7667 or contact your local ministry office. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Meanwhile, most of Ontario, including our region, remains as a Restricted Fire Zone, meaning open-air burning is still banned.
