The family behind the Everett Smith Memorial Fund hopes the community will continue to donate to it, as they work on new ways it can support children.
The fund, managed by North Hastings Children’s Services, started about a year ago to honour the toddler who died.
The Lord-Smith family released a statement saying that the money raised is already helping children, by funding special opportunities for kids enrolled in NHCS programs. The funds can also now be used now to help families deal with unforeseen, traumatic events.
The family’s statement says, “the last year has been difficult, with many new challenges” but those challenges have been “eased by the warm and supportive community in which we live.”
