Bancroft Community Transit celebrates new Flint Avenue location  

Bancroft Community Transit has a new home that will strengthen its ability to do what its slogan says: “bring communities together.” 

Dignitaries touched on that point Tuesday, as the non-profit held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate its recent move to 24 Flint Ave.  

Director Gwen Coish said the location is a more comfortable place for staff and community members, compared to the past one on Station Street. The new location is home to BCT’s charcuterie studio; one of two social enterprises that helps it raise funds for transportation services. The other is the Wattle & Daub Café, at Riverside Park. 

“The food speaks for itself,” Coish says. “There’s a lot of transportation that doesn’t have any coverage or that is out of pocket, so we need to find ways to subsidize that transportation.”

“That’s why the charcuterie studio and the Wattle & Daub Café are here. We believe what we present to the community is important; that they get value for their dollar.”  

Coish say BCT has a budget of about $160,000 per year. Almost $100,000 comes from gas tax money and funding from Bancroft, Wollaston and Hastings Highlands. The rest must come from the money it raises.
