Fish Hatchery hosting tours, has fundraising dinner coming up

The North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery hopes to reel in more support.

The non-profit ensures our lakes have healthy trout populations by raising eggs until they can be released as strong fish.

It’s hosting a Pig Roast and Fish Fry on Saturday, July 15 at the Bancroft Curling Club to raise funds. It’s also now offering tours of its 140 Hysert Rd. facility, where people can see its tanks.

Volunteer John Vanderpas says the Fish Hatchery hopes to teach more people about its work and how they can support it.

“One of the most important things we need at the hatchery is volunteers,” he says. “We have people who have been with the Hatchery now for 20 years. Back 20 years ago, everyone was a lot younger and lot more eager. We’d really love to have more volunteers come out and help.”

The cost for the Pig Roast and Fish Fry is $35 per person or $80 for a family.

For tickets, or more information, contact Vanderpas at 416-709-2866 or [email protected] . If you’d like a tour of the facility, call the Hatchery at 613-332-5018.
