Bancroft Rockhound Gemboree now underway

The Bancroft Rockhound Gemboree is now underway.

An opening ceremony was held Thursday morning at the North Hastings Community Centre, where dozens of people were already waiting to get inside.

Mayor Paul Jenkins said it’s the 58th edition of the Gemboree, but just the second in which the Town has been the organizer.

“Bancroft is recognized as the Mineral Capital of Canada and it only make sense that Bancroft is the home of the largest gem and mineral show of the county,” he said.

Jenkins made it no secret that the event is a big economic driver for Bancroft. He encouraged visitors to “spend your money” while in town.

The show opens at 10 a.m. each day through Sunday. More than 90 vendors are showing rocks and gems at the Community Centre and at the Bancroft Curling Club.

A Bancroft Community Transit shuttle bus can take guests between the two sites.
