Provincial grant will help Tweed & Company bring in more acts

The company that runs Bancroft’s Village’s Playhouse says it expects to bring in more high-quality acts in the years to come.

Tweed & Company Artistic Director Tim Porter says a provincial grant the company received will help strengthen its lineups at both its Bancroft and Tweed theatres.

The company received $66,432 from the Rural Economic Development Program earlier this month.

While it’s being spent on infrastructure at the Tweed theatre, Porter says the money, indirectly, supports the Bancroft operation, too.

“It will allow us to structure the new stage to be the exact same dimensions as the stage in Bancroft,” he says. “So, we’ll be able to pass shows more easily back and forth between each other and make, consistent professional standards across both of our venues.”

Porter says most shows that the company attracts play in both Tweed and Bancroft and with the two stages in-synch he expects more groups will be willing to work with the company.
