North Hastings Community Cupboard providing free dinners Saturday

No one in this community has to go without a Christmas dinner this year.

North Hastings Community Cupboard is gearing up for a big day on Saturday. Staff and volunteers will be providing turkey or ham dinners, with trimmings, to anyone in need.

They just have to come to the 2 Madawaska St. location, between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The event is normally done on Christmas Day, but it has been moved up two days this year to accommodate more volunteers.

The Cupboard’s Director Monica Piercey says the event is fun for those receiving food and those providing it.

“We really strive to put a smile on people’s faces and do what we can to improve quality of life,” she says.  “I look it as, every time we can reach out and put a smile on someone’s face, it’s like the stone in the pond and ripple effect goes out. It really does help the whole community.”

Meanwhile, this week Cupboard workers are handing out the last of the 187 holidays hampers put together for households who registered for them. Piercey says staff hope to soon get some additional families on a waiting list.
