SEPH reconsidering closing some offices

At their most recent meeting, the Southeast Public Health board passed a motion to review the recent decision to close some office locations.

It has been announced that the health unit intends to close their leased office locations in Almonte, Gananoque, Kemptville, Napanee, Perth, Picton and Trenton.

The decision was made after an operational review, which found that some offices had low volume, sometimes less than one client per hour, and more leased space than was needed.

In a memo, medical officer of health Dr. Piotr Oglaza identified “challenging financial projections” and the need to invest in staff and services rather than overhead costs.

The decision has seen some pushback from North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford, who has been advocating to reverse the decision to close the Kemptville office.

Dr. Oglaza is expected to table a report outlining how the decision to close the offices was made at the next board meeting on Dec. 17.
