Bancroft Mayor Bernice Jenkins says municipalities across Hastings County are working together to address proposed cuts at Quinte Health Care.
She opened yesterday’s council meeting with remarks on proposed service and job cuts announced last week in response to an estimated $11.5 million deficit for 2016/2017. Jenkins says she is meeting with the mayors of Belleville, Prince Edward County and Quinte West as well as the Warden of Hastings County, which will hopefully lead to a meeting with the ministry.
She says the group is concerned over the lack of funds available for local healthcare and that it’ll discuss what it can do to help.
QHC Senior Director of Communications Susan Rowe says the team of four hospitals is remaining open, including the one in Bancroft.
