Flying lanterns banned in Hastings Highlands

Hastings Highlands Council has amended a bylaw to ban the use and sale of flying lanterns in the municipality.

North Hastings Fire Chief Pat Hoover had asked that these lanterns be banned as they are a fire hazard.

The bylaw sets out that anyone caught selling or using a flying lantern can face a fine of $400, along with potentially needing to pay the cost for the fire department to put out the flames.
