Bancroft Senior’s Club opposes potential library move to Club 580

Bancroft’s Senior’s Club does not want to share the Club 580 building with the town’s public library. That’s the message from Senior’s Club President Roseann Campbell, who made a presentation to Bancroft Council earlier today.

This stems from a request from the Library Board to move into Club 580, and make it a community hub that could be shared with the seniors. However, Campbell says the building is just not big enough to hold both the library and the Senior’s Club.

The club is instead pitching the idea of leasing the building, and taking over the expense of maintenance, renovations and minor repairs, along with utilities.

Council tells the club there is also consideration to add to the existing Club 580 building to accommodate the library without interfering with the seniors. Campbell says that’s the only way she thinks this move could work.

Acting Mayor Paul Jenkins says there’s no intension to move the seniors out of Club 580, but it’s important for the community to grow, and have facilities that draw people in.
