Haliburton’s health unit encourages everyone to share the road

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reminding drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to share the road. The health unit has released tips on how to do that safely.

For drivers, it’s the law to give cyclists and pedestrians one metre of space when passing, and to obey the posted speed limits, stop signs, and red lights. Drivers are also being urged to never text behind the wheel.

The health unit also says pedestrians should always face traffic when walking. When crossing the road, pedestrians are reminded to never do so between parked cars, and to make sure drivers see them beforehand.

The health unit is asking cyclists to head in the same direction as traffic, signal all their turns, and ride straight in a predictable way. Cyclists should also wear bike helmets that fit properly.
