Police want you to be safe when driving in snowy weather

The Bancroft OPP is reminding you to be careful due to snowy and icy roads during the winter months.

This comes as Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the area, calling for lots of snow. The weather agency says this could result in poor driving conditions.

Constable Phillippe Regamey says roads can become very slippery in the snow.

Regamey says keeping a safe distance between you and other vehicles will also give you more time to react if an animal darts out onto the road. He says keeping your high beams on is a good way to make sure you see them, but reminds you to turn them off if you’re near another vehicle.

Regamey also warns you about the risks of black ice.

Regamey reminds you that, if you need to stop or slow down for anything on the road, it’s important to put your four-way flashers on to alert other drivers.
