Social Justice Without Borders hears from Syrian family

Social Justice Without Borders has made contact with the Syrian refugee family coming to Bancroft.

The volunteer committee has been working on fundraising to bring the Jarad family to the area for over two year. Since that time, Chair Judy Edgar has recently received her first email from them. Edgar says she teared up when it happened.

Anyone with pictures of the Bancroft area they would like to share is being invited to post them on the Social Justice Without Borders Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Edgar says the committee has nearly reached its fundraising goal of $60,000, which will be split between North Hastings Community Trust and bringing the family to Bancroft.

Last July, Moose FM spoke to Edgar who said it could take up to 18 months for the family to come to Canada. Edgar says she hasn’t heard that the timeline has changed.

Edgar says there is a home ready for the family once they arrive, but that the committee still needs new mattresses for them. Anyone who wants to get involved can find out more by clicking here.
