North Hastings Community Trust’s Director says equal pay for equal work is a positive step forward.
The province has announced casual, part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees will have to be paid the same as their full-time or permanent counterparts starting on April 1st. This is for those doing the same kind of job, who need the same skills, or work in similar conditions. NHCT Director Jane Kali says this is very fair.
Kali says the new law is important for the North Hastings area because there are so many people working part-time or seasonal jobs, which can take a toll on their health. However, Kali says it is also important for the province to find ways to support small businesses and local entrepreneurs.
The province says the new law will help protect employees and support businesses.
