Bancroft OPP are warning the public of a new phone scam that people are falling victim to.
The new type of scam is currently causing problems in Lanark County. Bancroft OPP Constable Philippe Regamey wants to get the word out in Bancroft before the scam hits the Town. This new scam involves the scammer posing as a Lawyer, Regamey says.
Regamey adds that these scammers will usually want an immediate return. They’ll be threatening in hopes of pressuring the person to transfer them money quickly. Regamey says the best way to combat this scam is to question them.
Regamey says that phone scams happen so often that making sure you’re aware of what you will and won’t get calls about is important.
