A Bancroft housing group hopes to add 30 new units; a move it says will help the town address its “housing crisis.”
A letter about the plan was presented to Bancroft council on Wednesday. It’s by the North Hastings Non-Profit Housing Corporation. The units would go up on the corner of Woodview Lane and Cleak Avenue and be a mix of bachelors, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms.
A resolution in the agenda asked council to donate to the project to help with building permit fees. Council, on the advice of Mayor Paul Jenkins, voted to defer the request to a later meeting. Jenkins said he’s been invited to a meeting later this month to learn more about the project.
However, he expressed that more housing projects in the town are needed and called it “an excellent project.”
