We’ve lost a long-time Bancroft Mayor.
Lloyd Churchill died on Wednesday, June 7 at age 86. His death was confirmed by the Town Thursday.
Churchill was first elected to Bancroft council in 1988 and he later served terms as Reeve and Mayor, up until 2010.
A statement by the Town says Churchill was a “dedicated community champion, whose legacy and political leadership continue to shape the Town today.”
In the statement, Mayor Paul Jenkins says, “while we are saddened to hear of the passing of former Mayor Lloyd Churchill, we take this time to offer thanks and celebrate his long service and accomplishments for the Town.”
An online obituary says Churchill died at North Hastings Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Muriel, his children Kim, Brian, Kris, Charlie, and Jocelyn and eight grandchildren.
