Bancroft is opening up a Tourism Information and Visitor Centre.
Mayor Paul Jenkins called it a “re-start” to town-funded tourism promotion, following pandemic years when little happened.
Councillors made the move at a meeting last week. They first approved a motion to establish the centre, at the Bancroft North Hastings Heritage Museum. They then approved putting $2,000 towards the centre, from a community grant fund, for signs and advertising.
In a separate move, council also approved moving the old CN caboose, located at Hastings Heritage Way, to an area next to the museum. A detailed plan to move the caboose – a tourist attraction that pays homage to the town’s former rail line – will be tabled at a future council meeting.
