Bancroft looks for more ways to save money through waste collection

The town of Bancroft could save more money than it had expected because of changes to the Dungannon Landfill.

Recent upgrades to the Waste Transfer Station at the landfill and bringing waste collection services in-house had been expected to save the town $9,000 by the end of this year. However, Public Works Manager Perry Kelly says the town is projecting savings around the $23,000 mark because the town can collect the money paid out for waste directly.

This has prompted town councillors to suggest aluminum, Styrofoam, clothes, shoes, and toys be collected separately in order to increase revenues. Kelly says he will look into these suggestions.
