Plans for Eagles Nest project move forward

Members of the Bancroft Trails Committee have received approval to move forward with the Eagles Nest Project.

The project kicked off in January, after receiving funding from the federal government, the town of Bancroft, and other local organizations. The project is meant to improve Eagles Nest trails, and explore the history of the park.

The project will now be able to move forward as town council has voted in favour of allowing four information kiosks to be put up, although where they will be has yet to be determined. One of the committee’s members Roger Kelly says these kiosks will house storyboards about the park.

Council has also approved the new logo for the park, which committee Co-Chair Peter Whitehead says shows off the Eagles Nest history while being able to attract tourists.

The committee is also asking that it be allowed to work with staff to look for grants to build an accessible washroom in the park, and to designate all trails as non-motorized to protect the culturally sensitive area.

A grand opening will be held for Eagles Nest Park on September 30th.
