Bancroft OPP’s New Detachment Commander Ready to Get to Work

The Bancroft OPP have a new face leading them.

It was announced on November 6th that Sargeant Jeffrey MacKinnon will take over as the Bancroft OPP’s new Detachment Commander. The 23-year police veteran was formally one the four Sargeant that work under the Detachment Commander.

When speaking with My Bancroft Now, MacKinnon spoke about his history in the community. He’s lived here for the past 10 years and was named the Interm Detachment Commander last year. “I was also the acting staff Sergeant this time last year for about five months so that got my feet wet into that role and what is required of me,” he says.

The jump from being a sergeant to a now staff sergeant is one MacKinnon is ready and excited for, he says. As a sergeant, he was in charge of the day-to-day policing work, while as a staff sergeant, he’ll be overseeing more of the political, behind-the-scenes work. He’ll also be the one that meets with municipal council.

MacKinnon says that in his role it will be important to continue to build on community relationships. “A police detachment can’t do it alone, you have to have everybody’s help to be able to provide for a safe community,” he says.
